debate. I do not therefore propose to deal with them

further in this despatch. Generally they display no

disagreement with any question of policy and are mainly

concerned with matters of detail.

With regard to Loan works there are only two

new items for which your approval has not yet been

obtained. They are first the Shing Mun Valley Scheme,

Second Cross Harbour Pipe, on which I have already

addressed you, and secondly the Wireless Telegraph Station

for the Air Port. In view of the probability that it will

not be long before Hong Kong is linked up with trunk air

routes it is essential that the Air Port should be pro-

perly equipped. I should be glad to receive your approval

to charge the cost of this work to Loan in the same way

as other expenditure on the Air Port.

9. No figure is shown against the Vehicular Ferry

for 1934, but as explained by the Colonial Secretary on

page 27 of his introductory speech it is probable that an

expenditure of from one to one and a quarter lakhs may

have to be incurred in order to improve the piers. There

are also a number of minor works in connection with the

piers which have been found to be necessary. I shall

address you further regarding this as soon as it has

been decided what structural additions or alterations

are necessary.
